The aim of this is to avoid misleading ordinary users who follow the link from WebView World. More detailed arrangements will be confirmed by Canon management when you contact us regarding the link. ---------------------------------------------------- 4. Notes on Using the VB101 ---------------------------------------------------- This section explains some items that it is important to note when you are using the VB101. The numbers in parentheses refer to the relevant pages in the manual. 1. Settings Pages (General) (1) Actions when changing the administrator name or password (38) Immediately after changing the administrator name or password, you must enter the new administrator name or password again. You may have to enter the new administrator name or password several times. This is due to the way the settings pages and the browser software operate and is not a fault. (2) Other notes on using the settings pages (38-59) The settings pages consist of forms in which the current settings are embedded. If you use the [Back] and [Forward] buttons in your browser to move between pages, inconsistencies may arise between the settings shown in the browser and the actual settings on the VB101. Always conclude operations in a settings page by clicking the [OK] or [Cancel] button in the top-right corner of the page. Also, never use multiple browsers to modify settings pages as this can result in erroneous settings. 2. Networks (1) PPP connection (41) PPP user verification only supports PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) and does not support CHAP (Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol). Check the dialup settings at the connection destination. (2) Using the Internet and PPP (29, 42) If you are using the Internet and PPP, set one of them as the default route and then add static routes as required. Static routes are necessary and useful when the PPP connection is to a router. When PPP is specified as the default route and no static route is set, communication via the Ethernet is limited to the subnet to which the VB101 is connected. To connect to a host on another network, specify the address range that includes that host in the Destination and Mask fields. (3) Connection modifications for connection to a switching hub If the VB101 is connected to a switching hub and the connection is switched during operation, communication using the hub's learning function may no longer be possible. Do not change connections during operation. 3. Cameras (1) Factory default settings for video and camera (26, 44) Cameras 1-4 correspond to video input sockets 1-4 respectively. At shipment, cameras 1-4 are all set to "Use". However, if you connect the viewer when no camera is actually connected and then view the image, a blue screen is displayed at a rate of 0.5 frames per second. Where no camera is used, change the settings so that the "Use" checkbox is cleared. (2) Notes on setting the camera parameters (43-46) At startup, the available camera angles and visible range limitations vary depending on the camera model. Refer to the manual for details. Fields left blank are assumed to be unspecified and those parameters cannot be initialized and the visible range limitations cannot be set. Also, because the visible range limitation setting takes priority over the camera angle setting at startup, for some visible range limitation settings it may not be possible to initialize the unit as specified. (3) If you cannot control the camera (26, 43-46) If the camera is displaying the video image correctly but you cannot control the camera, check that the RS-232C cable used for camera control is connected properly, that the baud rates for the camera and the VB101 are the same, and that the camera control port is correctly assigned. Check the visible range limitation setting since this can also prevent camera control. (4) Connection distance between the VB101 and the camera (VC-C4, VC-C4R) (19, 26) Use connection distances of no more than the 15 meters stipulated in the RS-232C standard. Canon does not guarantee successful operation over connection distances greater than 15 meters. (5) Focus ode (44) For shots that are unsuitable for auto focusing, such as low contrast subjects or scenery shot at night, the focus mode should be locked at the infinity setting. 4. Picture Recording and External Device I/O (1) Pre-event picture recording using external device input (48-51) When pictures are recorded using an external device, pictures can be recorded that were shot prior to a change in the status of the external device. However, the camera and the camera angles used to take the shots before and after the event are normally different. If you want to ensure that the same camera and camera angle are used both before and after the event, you must take measures such as specifying the camera settings so as to prohibit camera control by users or so that the camera control functions themselves cannot be used. (2) Picture recording priority when external device input is used (48-51, 118-119) The "Recording at ON event" and "Recording at OFF event" settings record pictures for a short period before and after a status change in the external device. The "Recording between ON event and OFF event" setting records pictures while the external device input is ON. Use the appropriate setting for the external device input characteristics and the desired goal. The priorities for camera angle specification are as follows: - Picture recording for ON/OFF events in external device 1 (In1) - Picture recording for ON/OFF events in external device 2 (In2) - Picture recording while external device 1 (In1) is ON - Picture recording while external device 2 (In2) is ON Because the camera angle is maintained during picture recording between an ON event and an OFF event, an ordinary viewer cannot be used to switch or control the camera. However, an administrative viewer can be used to obtain immediate camera control privileges and switch or control the camera even during picture recording between ON events and OFF events. (3) Picture recording priority when a schedule is used (51, 120-121) The start times for schedules 1-4 are staggered at 15-second intervals to prevent contention, but shooting times can still overlap in some cases due to camera delay or camera stabilization times. If there is contention between picture recording for different schedules, pictures are recorded using the schedule that has the highest priority. The schedule priorities and start times are as follows: Schedule 1 0 seconds after the scheduled start time Schedule 2 15 seconds after the scheduled start time Schedule 3 30 seconds after the scheduled start time Schedule 4 45 seconds after the scheduled start time Note that camera control by an administrative viewer has priority over scheduled picture recording. While the administrative viewer has camera control privileges, scheduled picture recording is either partially or entirely cancelled. (4) Changing settings during scheduled repetitions (51) You can repeat scheduled picture recording and external device output control by specifying the repetition interval from the starting time and the number of repetitions. However, if you change the settings during these repetitions, the repetitions are interrupted regardless of whether there are any changes related to the scheduling and repetition processing restarts from the next start time. (5) External device output states (49, 51) Output to external devices is controlled by external device input and according to schedules. The output status is ON when it is set to ON by either source and changes to OFF when output control ends for any reason. 5. Caution when using Netscape 6.x (1) Access controli52j Normal access may not be possible with Netscape 6.x. when the access control function is used with access restricted by User Name and Password. This problem, caused by JavaVM(JRE1.3.1), can be solved by installing JavaVM(JRE1.4.0). 6. Miscellaneous (1) PPP accounts and authorized users (41, 52) PPP accounts and authorized users both use a combination of user name and password. However, because PPP accounts and authorized users are handled completely differently in system operation, take care not to confuse the two. Note also that the selected password is not shown on the settings page and, as with the administrator password, you should take care not to forget it. (2) Log transmission (57-58) When you specify a Syslog server host or mail server host for log transmission, you should specify an IP address. The timing of mail transmission is governed by the time of log mail collection. But when the setting is changed or if the log queued for transmission is larger than 50 KB, the mail is transmitted regardless of the log mail collection time setting. Note that when you switch off or restart the VB101 (after changing the settings, etc.), any mail queued for transmission is lost. (3) Multilingual support on Web pages (92) A slash (/) at the end of a URL can be replaced by a directory index and you can configure the index page so that the selected page is in the correct language for the browser language settings. For example, if both English and Japanese index pages are provided, create files with the following names: - English index page: index.htm - Japanese index page: index-ja.htm Normally, if files are created with names in the "index-XX.htm" format, the "index-XX.htm" index page is selected and displayed when the language "XX" is specified. Refer to the browser language settings for information on the "XX" tags. (Note: Only the first 2 characters of the language code are read. For example, no distinction is made between "en-GB" (for English/British) and "en-US" (for English/American). When 2 or more languages are specified, only the language specified first is used to determine the index page. All other languages are ignored.) (4) Video Quality Setting (43) We recommend that you should set the setting value of the video quality within 20 to 80. If the value is set over 90, the image may appear scrambly. ---------------------------------------------------- 5. Notes on Using the Viewer ---------------------------------------------------- (1) Video images viewed on a viewer, even when saved or printed, may only be used for personal enjoyment. (2) When you are using the Java viewer to view video on Netscape Navigator, the browser restarts the Java applet when you resize the browser window. This cuts and then re-establishes the connection to the camera server so that the video is paused until the server is reconnected. (3) The camera control provided when you click in the viewer window is not particularly precise. (4) When images are captured using the Java viewer Snapshot button, there may a slight delay between the time the button is clicked and the time the image is captured. (5) You can specify that the Java viewer Capture button be hidden. Add the following line of code to the Java viewer page: < PARAM NAME = show_capture VALUE = "off"> ---------------------------------------------------- 6. Internal File System Details ---------------------------------------------------- The internal file system uses the following directories to store files: archive Java applet archive files htdocs Web pages provided on the HTTP server lang Setting page message files (1) archive directory This directory contains the Java viewer archive files and the bitmap files used by the Java viewers. - glimpse.cab CAB format Glimpse archive - glimpse.zip ZIP format Glimpse archive - lvapplet.cab CAB format LiveApplet archive - lvapplet.zip ZIP format LiveApplet archive - imagemap.gif Bitmap file used by LiveApplet - snapanim.cab CAB format SnapAnimator archive - snapanim.zip ZIP format SnapAnimator archive - digits.gif Bitmap file used by SnapAnimator For more information, refer to the sample page README file (htdocs/sample/readme.txt).
